WEST LANCASHIRE GOLF CLUB: This fine links course holds the distinction of being the pioneer of golf on the North West Coast, being formed in 1873. The course is situated on natural seaside terrain, overlooking Liverpool Bay, with immaculate greens making the historic West Lancashire links a must for all enthusiastic golfers visiting the North West. A pleasing feature of the course is that several elevated tees now provide a splendid view of the river. Golf commentator and former professional golfer Peter Alliss includes West Lancashire in his list of top courses. West Lancashire hosted 2008 Local Final Qualifying for the Open at Royal Birkdale and Qualifying for the 2009 British Amateur.
